The iconic Notre-Dame cathedral in Paris, France finally has a reopening date more than five years after a devastating blaze forced it to close.
The popular tourist attraction, which was first completed in 1345, will cap off an extensive clean-up and restoration effort with a grand reopening ceremony on December 7, according to the Associated Press.
The April 2019 fire destroyed the structure's famous spire and most of its roof.
Workers have since restored the monument's 315-foot-high spire and the the northern belfry—which was only partially destroyed in the fire—chimed its eight newly restored bells for the first time since the blaze earlier this month.
Both billionaire CEOs and smaller donors around the world generating nearly $1 billion in funding to restore Notre Dame, with roughly $148 million remaining for additional renovation work that will last into 2025 as well as much-needed preservation efforts in the years to come.
